This page is the family history chart and genealogy of the ancestors of Curtis Bush,
including surnames, Bush, Hopper, Purser, McKelvaine (also spelled McKelvain, McIlvane),
Danner, Boyd, Welch, Hall, and Key. Kemper County was the boyhood home of my
father, Curtis Bush, and it is the place that provides the link uniting all the surnames
listed above. The Bush branch of the family tree has been the most difficult to trace;
at this point my cousins and I are still searching for our heritage. Our most famous
relative on this page is Great Uncle Guy Terrell Bush, major league baseball player
who has the distinction of pitching Babe Ruth's last home run!

     Generation 1:

          Curtis BUSH, son of Clarence E. Bush and Mary Kathleen "Mamie" Hopper, was born on Feb 8, 1921, in Kemper County, Mississippi; he died Aug 2, 1996, in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi. He served in the Army during World War II, as a Tank Driver, during the Battle of the Bulge. He married Feb 10, 1947, (1st) Bonnie Jean CLEVELAND, daughter of Willie Cecil Cleveland and Flossie Henrietta Breazeale.  She was born on Sep 1, 1926, in Lamar County, Mississippi; she died Jul 20, 1961, in Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi.  He married (2nd) Audie Linda Hilton Dickerson.  Curtis Bush and Bonnie Jean Cleveland Bush are buried in Glendale Cemetery, Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi.

          John Francis BUSH, son of Andrew Pickens Bush and Elizabeth Welch Howard, was born in Feb 15, 1860, in Monroe County, Mississippi; he died Jan 27, 1945, in Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi.  He married Martha Jane PURSER, daughter of David Cullen Purser and Lucinda Bishop, on Dec 23, 1880, in Monroe County, Mississippi. She was born in September, 1859, in Hamilton, Marion County, Alabama; she died on Dec 16, 1937, in Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi.  They are buried in Roseland Park Cemetery, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

          John William Alexander HOPPER, son of John David Montgomery Hopper and Sarah Elizabeth Danner, was born on Nov 6, 1858, in Mississippi; he died Jan 6, 1946, in Mississippi. He married Nettie Lee MCKELVAINE, daughter of  Isaac Worth McKelvaine and Doratha "Dolly" Jane Hall.  She was born Dec 29, 1871, in Mississippi; she died Dec 21, 1943, in Kemper County, Mississippi.              John David Montgomery HOPPER, son of William Hopper and Sarah Peavy Key, was born Dec 16, 1835, in Greene County, Alabama; he died on Dec 21, 1885, in Boyd, Sumter County, Alabama.  He married Sarah Elizabeth DANNER, daughter of Jacob Getzen-Danner and Elizabeth G. Boyd, on Oct 11, 1857, in Alabama.She was born on Dec 9, 1839; she died on Jan 1, 1897, in Kemper County, Mississippi.   He served in the Confederate Army, Company K,  43rd Regiment, Mississippi Volunteers.  They are buried in Boyd Cemetery in Boyd, Sumter County, Alabama.

Hugh HOPPER, the son of John Hopper and Mary Peterson, was born in 1766 in South Carolina; he died in 1825. He married Sarah DIAL, daughter of Jeremiah Dial, Sr. and Margaret Montgomery. She was born Jan 1, 1766, in Ireland; she died after 1850 in Greene County, AL. After Hugh Hopper's death, Sarah Dial Hopper married Hugh's brother, William Hopper. This family traveled by wagon train, along with the Boyds and the Dials from South Carolina to Alabama in the early 1820's.
